Raleigh Tokul 2 bike Review

December 29, 2019 By JamieMurphy

If you’re a technical trail biker and you’re looking for durability, strength, and technical precision, you’ll appreciate our Raleigh Tokul 2 bike review to help you decide if this is the right bike for you! If you’re an entry-level rider, the Raleigh is going to do much more than you anticipated a trail riding bike should do.

But, it’s more of a mid to experienced-level bike, and it’s not the cheapest option if you’re after an entry-level model.

Let’s Break Down the Sizing and the Tokul’s
Frame

We’ll begin our Raleigh Tokul 2 bike review with the size guide. This model comes in four sizes

  • The 15’’ (small) is for bikers who are 5’4’’ to 5’7’’
  • A medium, 17’’ model for 5’7’’ to 5’10’’ bikers
  • The large 19’’ frame is made for 5’10’’ to 6’1’’ riders; and,
  • The x-large 21’’ bike is suited to those who are 6’1’’ to 6’4’’.

There’s a bike for every individual. The Raleigh Tokul 2 bike is lightweight as well, coming in at under 30 pounds, so you won’t have to put too much inertia in or strain your legs too much on longer trail rides.

The Tokul 2 features an aluminum frame. The custom-fit, butted aluminum frame is light, won’t bend, dent, and it isn’t going to rust, regardless of the wet riding conditions you put it up against. The durable frame and straight handlebars, are also going to allow you to remain erect while riding. You don’t have to hunch over; this, along with the fact that the four different frame sizes are tailored to your body and height, means you aren’t going to feel pressure on the shoulders, neck, or back, regardless of how long your rides are.

Drivetrain & Shocks

The bike features an SR Suntour fork; the 120-mm travel helps you maintain a smooth ride, regardless of what bumps you encounter along your bike ride. Shimano Alivio 1×9 drivetrain system and the trigger shifters are easy to shift when you need a little more force to drive you uphill. The tires are wider than those on standard terrain and trail riding bikes. Therefore, you’ll maintain stability on and off-road, and have the backing of excellent grip on wet terrains or riding surfaces.

It’s Tires & Brakes

The hydraulic braking system featured on the Tokul 2 is the perfect fit for trail riding; you never know what’s going to pop up in front of you, so you need brakes that can stop immediately when you slam them. The powerful Shimano MT200 braking system and MT200 hydraulic system will give you full control, regardless of the challenges you encounter when biking. Both front and rear alloy disc brake systems afford you optimal control when you don’t know what’s up ahead and you need to stop.

Let’s not forget about the tires. The bike has Weinmann 27.5’’ wheels along with Vee Rubber Crown Gem tires. The tires afford you efficient gripping capabilities, and the low-maintenance design means you won’t continually have to fill or balance the tires. With the powerful suspension system, your tires will remain aligned, no matter what tough terrain you’re riding on.

What Do Customers Have to Say? The Pros/Cons

Now that we’ve covered the bike’s general frame and layout, and you have a better understanding of its capabilities, you need to know what other riders at the same riding level/experience as yourself, have to say about the Tokul 2, right? Let’s see some of the best and the worst aspects bikers have discussed regarding the bike’s performance.

Tokul 2 Pros

  • The crankset is durable and will produce a smooth, even ride, regardless of how bumpy the terrain is that you’re riding on
  • The bike’s tailored to your height. With four size options, you don’t have to try to guess or figure out what will work for you; the manufacturer suggests the best bike-sized, based upon your height, so you know exactly what option to choose when you’re ready to buy the Tokul 2
  • The braking system is superior to the Tokul 1, and other trail-riding bikes for that matter; and, the hydraulic system will get you out of a jam when you encounter unexpected obstructions when riding
  • The wide rims and tires afford you more stability, control, and quick turn capabilities
  • The aluminum frame is durable and lightweight
  • The tires won’t puncture, bleed, or deflate, no matter what you hit on the trail
  • Ergonomic, straight handlebars allow you to remain upright and avoid stressing your neck and shoulders when riding

The Tokul’s Drawbacks/Cons

  • This bike has flat pedals (you can adjust or change them to your liking)
  • It’s not fully assembled (about 85% pre-assembled) so you’ll have to do some work to put it together
  • There are only nine gears; for extremely steep hills or more power, you may have to modify the bike to help you in extremely challenging situations

Overall, the bike has received high praise in most of the online Raleigh Tokul 2 bike reviews on Amazon and other sites.

Who Will Benefit from the Raleigh Tokul 2 bike?

Anyone! As our Raleigh Tokul 2 bike review suggests, it’s a higher-end model for technical riders. If you want maximum strength for uphill climbs, easy gear shifting when you need more precision and strength, and a soft landing spot on hard trails, you’ll appreciate the bike’s design and durability. For the beginner rider, we suggest the Tokul 1; it’s a little cheaper and will deliver the same basic design as the Tokul 2, minus a few features.

We believe the Raleigh Tokul 2 bike is best for

  • Those who have technical riding experience and need power and stability on tough trails
  • Individuals who want to cruise on rocky terrain
  • Those who want a high-end bike, for a reasonable price (it’s not cheap, but other bikes of similar stature run about $200 more)

The Raleigh Tokul 2 bike is durable, rugged, and will give you the force you need to drive you up the toughest trail. A stellar frame and design will help you maintain traction on rocky roads, help push you up difficult uphill challenges, and afford you excellent grip on muddy or wet terrain.
